Why Study at Surval?
Studying at Surval is a very different experience to many other schools due to our small size and highly personalised approach which lends itself to lessons being more tutorial style. Surval classes are small, ranging from 2 to 10 students. This means students benefit from a great deal of individual attention from subject teachers and can progress at their own pace.
CODE: Challenge, Ownership, Dialogue and Engagement
The approach to Teaching and Learning at Surval is underpinned by CODE. We seek to empower girls by instiling in them the confidence to speak up and step up to opportunities, to take the lead. This starts in the classroom, where we focus on girls taking ownership of their learning rather than relying heavily on the teacher to be the font of all knowledge. They are encouraged to think critically and flexibly and to problem solve, skills which they will need in the fast-changing workplace.
Homework tasks are designed to ensure the girls come to lessons prepared to engage actively and take the lead in questioning and discussion, having done preparatory work in advance. This enables lesson time to be used as productively as possible to deepen learning and enable greater exploration of a topic.
