News: Welcome Brunch & Induction Weekend

02 September 2019

It has been a golden weekend of sun and fun; of old friends being reunited, and new friendships being born. On Friday, the school year 2019/20 was officially opened with our annual Surval Brunch: Mrs Woodhouse delivered her welcome speech, and the girls, their families and the Surval staff enjoyed a delicious Japanese-themed lunch and delectable desserts in our beautiful garden setting, with conversation flowing in a stream of many languages.

Saturday saw the Clubs Sign Up Fayre take place, with each member of Surval’s teaching staff introducing their club. Ms O’Donnell stole the show with her directorial film debut, “Rollerblading: A Movie”, but there was a plethora of enrichment opportunities on offer: Cycling, Charity, Colour & Style, Climbing, French Culture, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), the International Award, Model United Nations, Sustainability, Volleyball and Yoga. The day wrapped up with afternoon tea held outside under the shade of the trees - brownies and cakes baked by the girls themselves.

On Sunday, the girls were given the opportunity to explore some of  the local spectacular Swiss landscapes, with a stroll on the shore of Lake Geneva, and a hike up nearby Chauderon Gorge - a series of cascades and turquoise pools in the heart of a lush green forest - before finishing with some well-deserved ice-cream in the picturesque town of Glion.

The girls now have their first week of classes to look forward to, with adventure already beckoning next weekend in the form of canyoning and rafting at Chateau d'Oex, and the always popular Colour Run in Lausanne...
