Skills for Life, Flavours From the World
Cooking with Confidence and Creativity
Culinary arts have been part of Surval’s DNA since our days as a Swiss finishing school. Today, our programme combines those classic skills with a fresh, modern approach that inspires creativity, encourages healthy living, and opens a window to cultures around the world.
Every girl, whether she is a high school student, Swiss Gap participant, or part of our seasonal camps, has the opportunity to explore the kitchen as a place of both artistry and practical learning. The aim is not just to follow recipes, but to understand flavour, presentation, and the joy of sharing food.
More Than Cooking
Lessons are led by our in-house chef and visiting experts, creating a professional yet relaxed environment where students feel free to experiment. Alongside mastering core techniques — from knife skills to pastry work — girls learn the cultural significance of different cuisines, the etiquette of dining, and the importance of nutrition and sustainability.
Sessions often link with other areas of Surval life: preparing menus for themed cultural evenings, hosting guests, or contributing to charity events. In doing so, students develop planning, teamwork, and presentation skills that reach far beyond the kitchen.
A Taste of the World
Our international community and location in the heart of Europe mean that culinary arts at Surval are naturally global in flavour. Students might prepare Swiss fondue one week, explore Mediterranean flavours the next, and try their hand at delicate French pâtisserie soon after. This variety fosters curiosity and adaptability, encouraging girls to appreciate and respect culinary traditions from every corner of the globe.
Skills to Last a Lifetime
For some, culinary arts spark a passion that leads to further study or a career in hospitality. For others, it’s about developing life skills that will serve them in university, in professional life, and in their own homes. In every case, the kitchen becomes a place where confidence grows, creativity thrives, and friendships are strengthened over shared meals.
