Trips and Travel
The world is part of the Surval classroom
At Surval Montreux, learning extends far beyond the school gates.
Our location in the heart of Europe gives girls exceptional opportunities to experience different countries, cultures, languages and landscapes during their time at Surval. Throughout the year, students can take part in Swiss excursions, European city breaks, ski trips and longer international residential tours, combining cultural discovery with adventure, friendship and growing independence.
Travel is an important part of the Surval experience. It encourages girls to be curious about the world, confident in unfamiliar surroundings and open to different cultures and perspectives. Surval's residential trips combine sightseeing, workshops and landmark experiences within and beyond Switzerland.
Discover Switzerland
For an international student, living in Switzerland is an experience in itself.
Our annual Swiss Tour gives girls the opportunity to explore their new home together, while excursions throughout the year make the most of Switzerland's spectacular scenery, cities, culture and traditions.
During the Winter Term, the mountains become an even bigger part of Surval life. Alongside the school's regular ski programme, girls can join ski weekends and a dedicated Ski Week, visiting different Swiss resorts and experiencing some of the country's most spectacular Alpine destinations.
From exploring Switzerland to skiing in the Alps, girls experience far more of the country than the view from their classroom.
Europe on our doorstep
Surval's location makes European travel a natural part of school life.
Weekend and residential trips give girls opportunities to discover new cities and cultures first-hand: exploring important landmarks, experiencing local food and traditions, visiting places of cultural interest and putting their language skills into practice.
For 2026–27, the programme includes a two-week Half Term Tour of Greece, a Christmas Market weekend in Prague and an Ascension Weekend in Budapest.
These experiences offer much more than sightseeing. Travelling together encourages girls to become more adaptable and independent while strengthening friendships within Surval's international community.
Travel further
Surval's travel programme also takes girls beyond Europe.
During the Easter Holiday 2027, students have the opportunity to join a Tour of Vietnam.
Longer international trips allow girls to immerse themselves in a very different culture and environment, experience new perspectives and become increasingly comfortable travelling internationally.
It is an important part of a Surval education: encouraging girls to look outwards, understand more about the world around them and develop the confidence to find their place within it.

Growing in confidence and independence
Travelling away from school gives girls opportunities to develop skills that cannot always be taught in a classroom.
They learn to adapt to new environments, communicate with different people, make decisions and take increasing responsibility for themselves. They also experience the value of travelling as part of a community — looking out for one another, sharing experiences and discovering new places together.
These are valuable skills for girls who will go on to study, work and live in an increasingly international world.
Culture brought to life
Travel connects naturally with Surval's emphasis on Languages and Culture and Global Perspectives.
A language becomes more meaningful when it is used outside the classroom. History, art, architecture, geography, food and traditions can all be experienced first-hand.
The school's wider educational philosophy is designed to prepare girls to play an active part in a global society, with Languages and Culture and Global Perspectives at the heart of everyday Surval life.
Trips and travel bring that philosophy to life.
Experiences shared with friends
Some of the most memorable Surval experiences happen while travelling together.
Whether skiing for a weekend in Zermatt, exploring the Christmas markets of Prague or travelling further afield, girls share experiences that strengthen friendships and bring Surval's small international community even closer together.
Our alumnae frequently talk about travel as a defining part of their Surval years. One former student recalls learning French, travelling across Europe and skiing for the first time among her earliest Surval experiences. Another remembers her Model United Nations trip to Boston as one of her favourite Surval memories.
A world of possibilities
From discovering Switzerland and skiing in the Alps to exploring European capitals and travelling further across the world, Trips & Travel is an integral part of the Surval experience.
Girls return with more than photographs. They bring back new experiences, greater independence, stronger friendships and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
