Chinese Independence Day

Posted on: 1st October 2014 | Category: Boarding life

As part of our practice of encouragement for all our nationalities at Surval, we had great fun on the 1st October celebrating Chinese Independence Day. For both lunch and dinner we indulged in a wide range of familiar and not so familiar Chinese dishes. The dining room was beautifully decorated with many Chinese flags, Chinese artworks and images of some of China’s most prominent landmarks. Everyone had the opportunity to try many different dishes, and while dumplings and fried rice were a popular choice, many girls chose to try something new (and those searching for a challenge even attempted with chopsticks!). The fruit platter sparked conversation as everyone admired the bright colours and the attractive shapes: it almost looked too good to eat!

The day was enjoyable for all but particularly special for two of our students. Read what they have to say below:

"On October 10th, it is our Chinese national day. Our school prepared Chinese food to us. For example fried rice, dumpling and soup. They also decorated the dining room. I really enjoyed it." (Jia’ai, China)

“Thanks for school to preparing Chinese food for us. I'm very like it.” (Chinese student)
