Day trip to Oeschinensee

Posted on: 5th June 2017

Inspiration came from one of our own pupils for our second activity of Ascension Weekend and led us on an excursion to Oeschinensee, a stunning mountain lake with UNESCO status, in the Swiss-German part of Switzerland.  Having already visited Blausee and Interlaken in the Winter term, Oeschinensee seemed like a suitable one to follow with, situated just a little further into the Bernese canton than our previous two adventures.

Arriving at Kanderstag, we took the cable car up to Oeschinensee and begun a very small hike to the area’s main feature.  A turquoise basin of water stretched out in front of us and gleamed under the cloudless blue skies above, serving as the perfect backdrop for a typical Swiss postcard.  Quite the rocky landscape on the lake’s shores, it made for a fairly intrepid climb around the lake, which girls were eager to conquer to see the waters from different angles.  They had the opportunity to rent boats on the lake and also partake in the toboggan run, activities which make Oeschinensee a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

After a few hours exploring the nature of the region, we headed back to Surval for an evening of pizza and relaxation before a big day at Europa Park on Saturday.  As our cultural experience of Ascension weekend, it was a chance for the girls to further develop their knowledge of Switzerland and of its beautiful lakes and landscape for which it is so well known.
