Festival International de Ballons 2015

Posted on: 28th January 2015 | Category: Swiss adventures

This weekend a group of Surval girls braved the cold weather and travelled to Chateau-d’Oex for the opening day of the Festival International de Ballons.  This is an annual event, and one of the largest of its kind; hot-air balloon pilots come from all over the world to take part.  The girls watched in eager anticipation as the balloons were inflated until they popped up and came alive.  Bursting hot flames were shot into them in preparation for lift-off and once untethered they took off quickly with the wind. The different colours and designs of the balloons scattered a rainbow of colour over the crisp white snow of the mountains – a truly magnificent sight.  A big thank-you to all who made this day possible, not least the girls who (perhaps with the help of hot chocolate and hot crepes) weathered the freezing temperatures without complaint.  Everyone agreed it was an unforgettable experience.

The balloons were amazing! They were so big and so colourful.  I’ve never seen something so wonderful.  The mountains and the snow and the colours of the balloons were spectacular.  I hope that one day I will be able to go again. (Maria, USA)

The Balloon Festival was amazing. There were many balloons of different shapes and sizes. It was beautiful to see them all go up and the place was very pretty too. There were also a lot of stands were you could buy food and that was also very fun. I had a really good time. (Sofia, Mexico)
