First International Award hike complete!

Posted on: 11th November 2014 | Category: Clubs and societies, Swiss adventures

On Sunday 9th November 22 International Award girls headed into the Swiss Alps for their first training hike. The hike started in the village of Val d'Illiez and ascended 700 m over the first few kilometers. Despite the cold weather and the mud and snow underfoot, the girls reached the top of the mountain and walked along the ridge before descending into the valley towards the thermal baths. The girls returned to school exhausted and with sore feet but pleased to have completed the hike and seen the first of this winter's snow. The hike took a total of 5 hours. The girls will be working on their fitness over the winter season to improve on their pace for their expeditions in the summer term. The expedition is one part of the four sections of the International Award, and all sections will be recorded and assessed. This important activity will be invaluable as girls go on to University or College.
