Surval Represents Switzerland in India

Posted on: 25th November 2013 | Category: Special events

Three Surval girls and their teacher became the first ever team from Switzerland to attend the Community Leadership and Development Summit in India last week. For ten days they lived with a host family, getting up at the unaccustomed hour of 5.30am in order to be at school for a 7.30 start to the day’s activities. As part of the familiarisation sessions they visited key tourist attractions including the Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar and Humayun’s tomb.  Amongst the many cultural activities they experienced a one-man play by a media artist and theatre director, a performance so impressive that they would like him to visit Surval.  They also enjoyed traditional Indian dancing and musical performances, henna hand painting and a series of celebratory events. The visit to the Blind Relief Association was a moving experience and tied in with our emphasis on work with charitable projects.

Our team experienced warm hospitality as well as some quizzical looks from other delegates, since there was no Swiss student in our team and the whole concept of such a small international boarding school was quite new to them!  However, we exemplified the Conference theme of unity in diversity! As expected our girls made many friends from other teams and countries, and enjoyed an unforgettable experience. We were very proud of them and we are grateful to Ms Martin for leading the visit.
