Our visit to Association Suisse Romande Intervenant contre les Maladies neuro-Musculaires (ASRIMM)

On Thursday 9th November the Charity Committee went to visit ASRIMM. ASRIMM is a Swiss association that informs and helps people affected by neuromuscular diseases. Founded in 1977, the association is mainly active in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.

We went to their office in Y-Parc in Yverdon and we met some of the ASRIMM team and we introduced ourselves. We saw their presentation in which they explained to us a little bit of ASRIMM’s history, as well as the organisation’s purpose and the key information about neuromuscular diseases.

ASRIMM has a summer camp which takes place in the French and Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. The people affected by these diseases have the opportunity to enjoy several activities during eight days accompanied by a great qualified team. It is also a real opportunity for their families to take a break and relax.

We had the privilege of seeing lots of albums which were full of photos of their summer camp, as well as of asking lots of questions and discussing a little bit with them.

We then did a little activity, we took a backpack which was pretty heavy, and we went up and down the stairs a couple of times. This activity was made for us to understand how a person with this disease feels each time they need to walk, we were feeling it for a moment but they feel it all the time.

We then said goodbye and we thanked them for the great experience and for having us.
