Surval students tour through Italy

Posted on: 29th October 2015 | Category: Trips and excursions

October half term, a time for students to fly home and see their families. Typical of the international travellers at Surval twenty-two students wanted to stay with a few teachers and explore the beautiful country of Italy.

Surval students had a whirlwind tour, starting with the scenic train journey from Montreux to Florence; a day trip to the historic and medieval town of Siena; students caught the hop on and hop off tourist bus around the city centre of Florence allowing them to visit the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery, Duomo Santa Maria de Fiore, before driving down the country to its capital, Rome.

Rome was packed with activity! A photography tour around the city, visiting Piazza del Popolo, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Capitoline Hill and the Colosseum; a visit to the Colosseum; then the chance to marvel at Michelangelo’s work in the Sistine Chapel as well as visiting the smallest independent state in the world: The Vatican City. The visit to Rome ended with students making their own pizzas! This was fun to watch as students tried several interesting techniques to expand their dough and the results were tasty for all!

Pompeii was the final day trip and what an educational day, learning about the geographical importance of Pompeii and the tragic history too. And finally, Rome has some wonderful shops which students got to visit (and fill their suitcases up) on the last day.

A fantastic trip had by all!
