Highlights of Switzerland Tour

An early morning start did not dampen spirits as twenty-two Surval girls embarked on an orientation of some of Switzerland’s most beautiful locations in German, Italian and French speaking regions. The first stop on the epic journey was at the Neufen Pass where some students touched snow for the very first time. “Even in September we can see snow,” exclaimed Fernanda and Marina excitedly. Winter woolies were exchanged for summer clothing, as the girls wandered around the delights of Swiss Miniature, by the lakeside town of Lugano. The girls had the opportunity to explore this beautiful town before a wonderful supper at The Grotto.

Not for the faint hearted, the girls ascended the Alps on UNESCO’s Bernina Express passing glaciers, lakes and remote mountain villages. “It was like watching tv but better,” Taisiia said later as she described the views from her window seat. The girls were in awe of the panoramic views as this old red train chugged through the breathtaking landscape en route to St. Moritz. In the chic town of St. Moritz, the girls could not resist indulging in some souvenir shopping. The small town of Bivio was to be the resting place for the night where fondue was sampled before bed.

Onwards to Zurich, where after a very interesting bus tour, the girls explored the most expensive shopping street in the world, Bahnhof Strasse. Later, during a walking tour of the fascinating medieval town of Lucerne, the girls experienced the world famous Chapel Bridge and admired the many colourful facades of the old buildings. Exhausted but exhilarated, the girls returned to Surval with a wealth of memories and travel appetites whetted.
