Surval visits Barcelona

Posted on: 19th March 2014 | Category: Trips and excursions

It is the middle of March, and Spring-time in Barcelona.  16 students and 20°C temperatures and every day with bright Mediterranean sunshine and clear blue skies and a great organisation for learning and experience of the treasures of this great city and the region.

Up early and on the bus, our day began with a tour of Barcelona with an excellent tour guide with so much detailed information.

And on the left you can see….and on the right don’t miss the... and just over there, behind that you will find the…are you listening???

Barcelona is a treasure, a very condensed package of history and art and of the glorious and proud Catalan culture.

We arrived at the Basilica, Sagrada Familia, from the architect, Antoni Gaudi, (1852-1926). Inspired by nature, he is the devout architect of many monuments; religious, residential and civil in the city and the surrounding area. The basilica has already been 130 years under construction and is scheduled to be finished in the next 30 to 80 years: an inspiring masterpiece for all visitors to Barcelona.

Our next day was a trip to The Monastery of Montserrat, 60 km from Barcelona: a monument in a beautiful setting of wonderful geological formations in the heart of the Catalan religious and spiritual passion.

Shopping and enjoying the excitement of the people in the streets filled the free time and the wonderful traditions of the Catalan Tapas and endless colour, song and dance. An experience to be remembered and recalled for the next return.  The students asked for an extended stay in this wonderful city, a good indicator of their good time and visit to a world treasure, Barcelona.
