Trip to Paris

Posted on: 11th November 2014 | Category: Trips and excursions

During the second week of the Autumn Half term holidays, 19 girls took the train to Paris for a week full of culture, adventure and macaroons.

On our first day we were treated to a city tour in a trail of 2CV cars - the girls loved driving through Paris' beautiful streets with the roof down in these classic cars. This was followed by a fashion show in the Galeries Lafayette which had the girls critiquing the styles of the models and an afternoon shopping in the renowned department store. Day two took us out into the historic Forest of Fontainebleau for some orienteering, team building activities, rock climbing and abseiling. Several girls declared their new love for bouldering and all of them fearlessly made the abseil decent.

Later in the week all of the girls showed off their baking skills at a Macaroon-making class; they made a beautiful assortment of white-chocolate with raspberry and dark chocolate ganache, even managing to have the restraint to take some away from the kitchen with them to eat later! The baking class was followed by a visit to the breath-taking palace of Versailles where we explored the ornate rooms and gardens. Thursday saw the girls having free-time to explore the city; the Foundation Year girls made the excellent choice of visiting the Laduree shop on the Champs Elysees and eating their delicious macaroons beneath the Eiffel Tower with Miss Rudd, Miss Merrett and a cup of tea!

Our trip to Disneyland Paris coincided with Halloween. The girls spent the day going on all of the rides and then were treated to extended visiting hours in the park for their Halloween party. The park was full of people dressed in crazy and adventurous costumes and face-painting. After meeting for supper in fancy dress, all the girls enthusiastically painted each other's faces, and the teachers' too so we ended the day as Zombies, monsters and Disney characters! Lucia and Ana-Pau's inflatable costumes were the most entertaining. On our final day, we visited the largest flea market in Paris and walked up to the Sacré Coeur and Montmartre; again with clear, blue, autumnal skies we enjoyed the far-reaching views outside and also a spine-tingling choral service inside the Sacré Coeur itself.

The variety of suppers we had each night was a fantastic treat! The meal on the 56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower gave us unrivalled views of the sparkling Eiffel Tower; we tasted traditional French gallettes and crepes (these were a particular success) and on the final night we had a river cruise with a delicious 4-course meal under clear Parisian skies as we passed many of the spectacular architectural sights, all majestically lit up.

We loved Paris and will definitely be going back!

'Paris was the best-planned trip so far- we did lots of exciting things that we love to do. We particularly liked the car tour and the teachers were lots of fun too!' (Foundation Year girls)
