Whole school trip on the Chocolate train

Posted on: 25th September 2015 | Category: Swiss adventures, Trips and excursions

On a cold but bright and sunny bank holiday morning, 34 Surval girls and 4 staff arrived at Montreux station to embark on a chocolate filled adventure through the Swiss Alps.

We travelled first class on the chocolate train with some of us sitting in the ultra-modern golden carriage and the others sitting in the traditional ‘Harry Potter’ style carriage. We started our journey with a delicious chocolate croissant which was the beginning of the chocolate extravaganza.

Our journey took us through the mountains and the scenery was spectacular. We arrived in Broc, here we went to the legendary Maison Cailler where we discovered all of the secrets of making chocolate. We all particularly enjoyed the tasting session at the end of the tour, where most of us ate a whole box of chocolates each! After our feast, we visited the gift shop where we managed to buy lots more chocolate and presents for our families. It was chocolate heaven and we did not want to leave.

The second part of our journey took us to the charming medieval market town of Gruyéres. This town is stunningly beautiful and sparkled in the sunshine. Some of us decided to have a picnic alfresco at the foot of the magnificent castle whilst others decided to eat fondue in the restaurants which lined the cobbled streets.

Finally, the mysteries of how the town's world-famous cheese is made was revealed at the Maison du Gruyére. We even got to taste the cheese and have ice cream in the lovely garden area of the cheese factory.

This was a truly magical day trip with wonderful memories we will never forget.
