Whole School Trip to Bern

Posted on: 29th April 2013 | Category: Trips and excursions

Last Friday Surval Montreux had an outing for the entire school. Office staff along with students, academic and household staff went together on a school trip to Bern.

Our first stop was the Bernisches Historisches Museum. The exhibition Qin – The eternal emperor and his terracotta warriors.  The exhibition was fascinating and we discovered all about First Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, who created the Chinese Empire more than 2,000 years ago. We also got to see some of his famous Terracotta Army. The site of Qin’s monumental tomb has been designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site, as indeed has the city of Bern itself. The tomb is also considered to be the eighth Wonder of the World.

We then went to the Zentrum Paul Klee Museum to view the exhibitions Klee and Jawlensky - An Artist’s Friendship and From Japonism to Zen. Paul Klee and the Far East. The first exhibit explored Klee’s relationship with his artistic contemporaries, with a particular emphasis on his friendship Alexej von Jawlensky, and the influence they had on his work.  The second focussed on his visits to the Far East and how Japanese culture and art also impacted his work.

It was wonderful and interesting day out for the whole school community.
