New Director of Teaching and Learning at Surval Montreux

Posted on: 29th May 2018

Surval is delighted to announce the appointment of Nataly Miorin as Director of Teaching and Learning from September 2018. The appointment reinforces and further enhances our school’s commitment to developing a unique and transformational learning experience for girls aged 12 to 19 years from around the world.

Ms Miorin brings 24 years’ worth of experience to Surval, garnered at schools across the world. Most recently, she has held positions of Head of Senior School and Director of Studies within two small schools which belong to the Harrow International Management Services group in China. Prior to working in China Ms Miorin was a Head of Faculty and Head of History at Hautlieu School in the Channel Islands. She has experience of coordinating her school’s ‘Gifted and Talented’ provision, serving as a teacher trustee for its charitable foundation and spearheading her school’s China strategy. This resulted in Hautlieu School attaining 1000th Confucius classroom status, which was publicly acknowledged by President Xi Jinping during his 2015 official State visit to the UK.

Prior to joining Hautlieu, Ms Miorin worked at Brillantmont International School, Lausanne, Switzerland in History and Boarding and D’Hautree School in the Channel Islands as a History and English teacher. She is a History and Politics graduate from Swansea University, Wales, and also holds a Masters in Professional Studies and Education from King’s College London.

Of her new role, Ms Miorin says: “I am delighted to be joining Surval as Director of Teaching and Learning. I look forward to working with the Principal, Mrs Woodhouse, and colleagues in building on existing excellent practice, to ensure each student’s time at Surval becomes a positive and rewarding part of their life-long learning journey.”

Her personal and professional experience has shaped her desire to provide  students with  a curriculum that extends beyond the classroom. "Growing up in a family of three nationalities (Italian, French and British) has been a great education in itself and definitely unleashed the travel bug in me from an early age. Where relevant, I try to apply these experiences to the history classroom, Model United Nations and cultural trips as a means of nurturing intellectual curiosity," Ms Miorin explains.

Commenting on Ms Miorin’s appointment, Mrs Woodhouse, Principal of Surval Montreux, said:

"I am thrilled that Ms Miorin is joining Surval and looking forward very much to working with her. She is clearly very excited by the new role of Director and Teaching and Learning here and brings a wealth of experience and skills to it. She also holds happy memories of Switzerland and being part of a boarding school community and is looking forward to returning to both."
