Student Blog: Cartons du Coeur Charity

07 November 2018

“I have always had a desire to help people in need around the world”

On November 3rd, 2018, I got an unforgettable opportunity to participate in a magnificent association where people volunteer once a year to collect an enormous amount of hygiene products, household essentials and food to deliver to the people lacking means in the Riviera of Vevey and Montreux. This collection of products takes part in supermarkets where the volunteers can persuade and share information to the customers with the purpose of them buying certain products to donate to the charity.

I can proudly call myself a volunteer that raised 15027 tonnes of goods in 846 boxes along with my friends - Maria, Madawi, Zoe, Lupita and Lizeth. We had one shift in the morning from 8:30-11:00 am where Zoe, Lupita and Lizeth took part. The next shift was in the afternoon from 2:00-5:00 pm where Madawi, Maria and I took part. We all did a great job.

I got the chance to interact with the people in a supermarket and share my ideas about the importance of us, young people, doing this Cartons du Coeur charity. I got to practice my French with the locals and built up confidence in speaking in French. I was struggling at first to approach to people, but as the time passed, it got so much easier.

I’ve always had a desire for helping people in need around the world. Here, at Surval I am able to embrace that part of myself. I am extremely grateful to have this amazing possibility of helping people at such a young age as the values that come within the experience that enrich my life in so many ways. A charity work fills you with kindness and the satisfaction due to the fact that you participate in improving somebody’s life. I simply can’t explain the amazing feeling that you get from it.

Cartons du Coeur was a remarkable experience in my life; I was so lucky to be accompanied by such a wonderful group of people, and to be guided by our teachers who I look up to - Ms. Drake and Madame Spigarelli. I can’t wait to participate in more charity work throughout the year that I know I will never forget!
