Surval's Japan Cultural Discovery Tour

02 November 2025

After an unforgettable journey through Japan, Viviana (Grade 12, Mexico) reflects on Surval’s recent educational and cultural experience across Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Her words capture the beauty of Japan’s contrasts — where modern innovation meets timeless tradition — and the lasting impact of discovering the world as Survaliennes.

Surval embarked on an educational and cultural journey through Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, exploring the contrast between Japan’s modern innovation and its centuries old traditions.

In Tokyo, the group visited the bustling districts of Shibuya and Ginza, observed the city’s dynamic architecture, and spent a day at Tokyo Disneyland, where imagination and precision blended seamlessly. Students also attended a sumo wrestling performance, witnessing one of Japan’s oldest sporting traditions, and participated in a sushi-making workshop, learning the careful technique and artistry behind Japan’s most iconic cuisine.

In Kyoto, the itinerary focused on heritage and spirituality. Visits included the Kinkaku-ji Golden Pavilion, renowned for its gold-leaf exterior reflecting over a tranquil pond, and the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates winding through the forested hills.

The journey continued in Osaka, where students enjoyed Universal Studios Japan and explored the city’s lively streets and food culture, known for its welcoming atmosphere and distinctive flavors.

Japan’s unique culture embodies a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. Beyond the sights, the trip became something larger, a reminder of how vast the world truly is and how beautiful it can be to explore it together. Throughout the journey, the girls learned to foster independence, cultural appreciation, and global awareness, returning home with unforgettable memories and new perspectives.
